“Funding for our national parks has been lagging behind for several years. Today, there is an estimated $12 billion backlog in upkeep/maintenance that’s needed across the National Park Service. Much of this backlog relates to infrastructure – roads, historical buildings, trails, etc.

For Washington’s National Park Fund, we know that the support we show – more than $5.5 million over the past seven years – has a very real and very positive impact on Mount Rainier, North Cascades and Olympic National Parks. If not for Washington’s National Park Fund support, Rainier’s volunteer program – which manages more than 1,800 volunteers each year – would be hard pressed to operate. Without our support, some of the historic structures we’ve funded could have collapsed by now. Search and rescue teams would be sorely shy of much needed equipment, youth programs would diminish, and trails wouldn’t keep pace. We remain wildly committed because our park’s staff members are wildly committed. We envision that our parks will, as time continues, be strong and vibrant, youthful and everlasting.”
